In recognition of his exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to peace and good governance, the Executive Chairman of Nsukka Local Government Area, Engr. Jude Chinedu Asogwa, KSJI, has been conferred with the Meritorious Peace and Security Ambassador Award by EYE-ON-SECURITY, a network of journalists and media professionals dedicated to promoting peace, public safety, and accountability.

Presenting the award, the National Coordinator of EYE-ON-SECURITY, Mr. Monday Iyke Ojomah, commended Engr. Asogwa for his transformative leadership, which has continued to set Nsukka apart as a model of responsive and people-centered governance in Enugu State.

Mr. Ojomah noted that the recognition was well-deserved, highlighting the council chairman’s use of both kinetic and non-kinetic security strategies to strengthen local peace efforts. He praised Engr. Asogwa’s initiatives in youth empowerment, local security partnerships, and community engagement, which have enhanced unity and safety across the local government area.

He further emphasized that the award represents a collective acknowledgment of Engr. Asogwa’s visionary approach to peacebuilding and sustainable development, adding, “You have demonstrated that true leadership is not about occupying office, but about touching lives and protecting the peace that allows communities to thrive.”

Upon assumption of office, Engr. Asogwa made security a top priority. On 1st October 2024, a day after his swearing-in, he convened a high-level security meeting that led to a comprehensive overhaul of the council’s security architecture. His administration employed and retrained over 647 neighborhood watch personnel, integrated modern surveillance technology such as DJI Phantom 4 drones, and strengthened collaboration with key security agencies including the Police, Army, DSS, Forest Guard, and Civil Defence.

Additional reforms included the establishment of the Rapid Response Squad, Anti-Cult Unit, and Border Security Team, ensuring that even the remotest communities within Nsukka receive adequate protection and monitoring.

Receiving the award, Engr. Asogwa expressed gratitude to EYE-ON-SECURITY for the honour, reaffirming his dedication to making security, equity, justice, accountability, and transparency the hallmark of his administration. He added that his leadership vision aligns with the disruptive innovation model of His Excellency, Barr. Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, the Executive Governor of Enugu State.

“This award belongs to the people of Nsukka, whose resilience and support make progress possible. Together, we will continue to protect our peace and promote inclusive development,” Engr. Asogwa stated.
